CENTRAL KALIMANTAN – Korintiga Hutani (KTH) recently celebrated its first harvest of hybrid corn to support Indonesia’s food security program. On Friday (9/5), a remarkable 557 kilograms of corn were distributed to local communities from a one-hectare plot. This achievement is a result of strong collaboration between KTH and two forest farmer groups: Dahas Tompas and Momben BalaKita.
The event involving farmers from Panahan Village (North Arut Subdistrict, Central Kalimantan) is part of KTH’s corporate social responsibility programs for this year. It focused on empowering communities and strengthening local food systems, with the ultimate goal of achieving food self-sufficiency.

Joining the festivities were members of surrounding villages, KTH’s president director Hironobu Abe and his management team, as well as North Arut deputy police chief Eko Sumarno and his officials.
Hybrid corn farming marks the first step towards a sustainable agriculture practice that actively engages local community members. Continuous evaluation and development will be undertaken to ensure improved yields and the program’s long-term success.
“This harvest isn’t just the fruit of our hard work… it symbolizes new hope for food security in Panahan and the greater North Arut area. Onwards, we remain committed to evaluating and enhancing our farming initiative to deliver lasting benefits to the people,” Abe vowed.
Meanwhile, Panahan residents welcomed the festival with joy and hope.
“We’re thrilled and proud to have been involved. It’s our hope that today’s harvest drives ongoing agricultural progress in Panahan,” said Sari, a local.
In the spirit of collaboration and sustainable development, KTH aims to establish an effective and impactful community empowerment program. This farm is expected to encourage greater independence and resilience in Indonesia’s agricultural sector. (PR)
